Shakib Al Hasan certainly played the innings of his life to help pip West Indies in the world cup encounter in Taunton on Monday to take two points for Bangladesh and take them to 5th position in the points table. In his innings of 124 runs off 99 balls, Shakib completed 6000 ODI runs, became highest run scorer for Bangladesh in the world cup and became the second Bangladeshi after Mahmudullah to complete two centuries in world cup.
Earlier in the game, Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and elected to bowl first. The determined men in red and green restricted West Indies to 321/3 after the end of 50 overs. Wicket keeper batsman Shai Hope top scored with 96 off 121 balls. Mohammad Saifuddin and Mustafiqur Rahman picked three wickets each for Bangladesh.
Chasing a score of 322 runs, Bangladesh got off to a good start courtesy Tamil Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar who added 52 runs for first wicket partnership. Tamim and Shakib added 69 runs for the second wicket but the biggest disappointment came from Mushfiqur Rahim who got out on a duck.
From 133-3, it was the show of Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Kumar Das who put up an unbeatable partnership of 189 runs to win the game for Bangladesh by 7 wickets.
