IND v SL: Big blunder responsible for the cancellation of 1st T20

The first match of the three-match T20 series between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati was canceled due to wet outfield. The match between the two teams was to be played at Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, but due to continuous rain and wet pitch, the match was called off by the umpires.

Torn covers let the water percolate on the pitch

The BCCI is angry by the cancellation of the first T20 between the two teams. The governing body has asked the Chief Curator Ashish Bhowmik to report on this context. At the same time, an official of the board said in regards to this, ‘This has led to the inexperience of the State Cricket Association in organizing international matches. No association is taught how to deal with such a challenge. According to me, the pitch curator and CEO are responsible.

Apart from this, BCCI GM Saba Karim has refused to say anything on this matter at present. He made it clear that he will be able to say something on this subject after getting a full report from the pitch curator. Its worth mentioning that the toss was held at time and India decided to bowl first after winning it. But the rain delayed the start of the play and it continued further, which made it tough for the groundsman to wipe all the moisture from the ground. The umpires reviewed the field at three different times but were not satisfied. At the same time, the ground staff were seen drying the pitch with hair dryer and  iron, so the full house at the venue could see the action unfold which didn’t became a possibility. The BCCI is considered the richest board in the world. In international level cricket matches, it is never expected that the covers that have been put on the pitch during the rains are torn and the water from them can percolate to the pitch.
