Former India captain Sourav Ganguly said that India are good enough to beat Afghanistan without the services of Virat Kohli, who will turn to England to play county cricket for Surrey.

“India will still beat Afghanistan without Virat. And hopefully they can do well in England also,” Ganguly said in a promotional event in Kolkata.
“The Prince of Kolkata” also expressed his disappointment for excluding Ajinkya Rahane from India’s ODI and T20I squads for the tour of England.
“I am surprised Rahane is not in the team. He should have been in the team. He has been moved around too much, he is a quality player,” Ganguly said.
“Dada” as fondly called by his fans, also backed Virat Kohli’s decison of skipping the test against Afghanistan in Bengaluru.
“I think since the side is Afghanistan, he has chosen to play county. If it would have been any other team, he would have not gone. It just shows how important the England tour is for him. I have always maintained, a captain’s recognition is how well he and his team does overseas,” said Ganguly.
“As a captain, he wants to win (in England) so that is the reason (he has gone to play county). ”
Ganguly feels that Kolkata Knight Riders dream of making it to the play-offs is over after they lost by a comprehensive margin of 102 runs against Mumbai Indians in Kolkata. KKR are currenly at 5th position in the points table with 10 points in 11 matches.
