India might lose intentionally to deny semi-final berth to Pakistan- Former Pakistani cricketer

India face a depleted England in a spin friendly conditions at Edgbaston in Birmingham on 30th June 2019. This will be a must win encounter for England to stand a chance to qualify for the semi-finals of the world cup. A win fo Eoin Morgan’s led side will ensure that Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be out of contention for a place in last four.

India defeated West Indies in their last encounter by a comprehensive margin of 125 runs to almost guarantee a place in the semi-finals. While, England lost their last two encounters against Sri Lanka and Australia to be on the cusp of elimination from the show piece event.

Former Pakistani International Basit Ali makes surprising claims

Ali claimed that India will deliberately lose their matches against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh so that Pakistan does not qualify for the last four of the ongoing World Cup. His further claims were more shocking as he said that David Warner deliberately performed poorly against India and Virat Kohli and his team intentionally played poorly against Afghanistan.

“India will never want that Pakistan make it to the semi-finals. They have matches remaining against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Everyone saw the fashion in which they won against Afghanistan,” Ali told a Pakistani news channel.

“They’ll play in such a way that nobody will come to know what has happened. What happened in India’s match against Afghanistan? What did Australia do against India? What did David Warner do?,” he added.

Pakistan is currently at the 6th spot in the points table with seven points in 7 games. They will need to win their next two games against Afghanistan and Bangladesh and will have to rely on the performance of other teams to qualify for the semi-finals. If Pakistan manages to win their remaining two games and England lose their one of the two matches then Pakistan will sail through with 11 points.

If Sri Lanka manages to win their remaining three encounters then they will not rely on other’s performance and will make the semi-finals of the show piece event. Bangladesh are also up with a contention with seven points in  games.
