India Open 2018 Quarter Final: Sindhu reaches semis, Saina bows out.

On the fourth day of the India Open Badminton Tournament Sindhu has reached the semifinals, winning the women’s singles quarter-finals. The top seed recovered from a mid-game slump to outwit Spain’s world no 36 Beatriz Corrales 21-12, 19-21, 21-11 in the quarter-final. India open 2018 quarter final result

Sindhu will next face world number 3, Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand. Ratachanok beat Hong Kong’s Yip Pui Yin 21-11, 21-11 to guarantee a semi final clash against Sindhu.

Saina, who reached the finals at Indonesia Masters last week, looked a little sluggish in her movement and committed too many unforced errors to go down 10-21, 13-21 to World No 11 American Beiwen Zhang.

India faced disappointment in the men’s singles category as B. Sai Praneeth and Parupalli Kashyap lost in straight games. Praneeth could not match the speed of Chou Tien Chen from Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals and lost 15-21, 13-21. China’s Ciao Bin got the better of Kashyap, who looked a bit tired and lost it 16-21, 18-21.

Olympic champion Carolina Marin suffered an unexpected defeat in the women’s singles category. Hong Kong’s Cheyung Nagan Yi defeated the Spaniard in straight games 21-12, 21-19. In the semifinal, Cheyung will face Beiwen Zhang of America, who defeated India’s Saina Nehwal in the quarter finals.

Iskandar Zulkarnain of Malaysia emerged as the giant killer in the tournament. He defeated Sameer Verma 21-17, 21-14, in the match which lasted 49 minutes. The Malaysian shuttler earlier defeated Kidambi Srikanth in pre-quarter finals.

Mixed doubles pair of N Sikki Reddy and Pranaav Jerry Chopra, entered the final four after beating Chinese combo of Han Chengkai and Cao Tong Wei 21-8, 21-13.

In the men’s doubles, the duo of Manu Attri and B. Suhim Reddy had to face defeat in the quarter-finals. The top seeded Indonesian pair of Marcus Farnaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjay Sukamuizo defeated Indian duo 21-19, 21-19, to book a place in semi final.

India also faced disappointment in the women’s doubles. The pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy got defeated by China’s Du Yu and Li Yinhui 21-17, 23-21.
