After thumping Sri Lanka at home to record a ninth straight series win, the Indian cricket team will be facing their toughest competition in an away series in South Africa.  India have never won a Test series in South Africa and captain Kohli will look to change that. India vs South Africa series has always offered the most crunch games in cricket history. Ahead of Test series, the two captains — Kohli and Faf du Plessis — posed with the coveted trophy. For the series named the Freedom Series. BCCI tweeted a picture of the two captains with the trophy at the Newlands ground(Cape Town) and captioned it, “Winter is Here! #FreedomSeries #SAvIND.”

India, under Kohli’s captaincy, registered a record ninth straight series win after drawing the third and final Test against Sri Lanka on December 6. A series win in South Africa will see the Indians create a new world record of 10 consecutive Test series victories. The Men in Blue are currently on level with Australia for the most consecutive Test series victory.

India vs South Africa series 2018: India is scheduled to play three Tests, 6 ODIs and 3 T20Is on the long tour.

The first Test will be played on January 5th in Cape Town, the second Test will be played in Centurion from January 12th and the last match will be played at Johannesburg from January 24th. After that, the two teams will play a six-match ODI and three-game T20I series in February.

History of India vs South Africa series

India first toured South Africa in 1992 under the captaincy of Mohammad Azharuddin. India lost the three-match series 0-1. Since then, Both the historic nations have played 17 Tests in South Africa. India won 2 and lost on eight occasions. Seven Tests ended in draws.

As the first test starts from tomorrow, BCCI tweeted a video of trophy unveiling and captioned it “1 day to go. Are you ready?  ”
