Cycling Federation of India announced the 9-member Indian Cycling squad for Commonwealth Games 2018 to be held in Gold Coast, Australia. The squad consists of 5 women and 4 men. The performance of cyclist in the Asian Track Cycling Championship has been taken as a consideration for selection. India won won 4 medals in ATCT held at Malaysia, including 3 gold and 1 bronze.
The women’s team comprises Deborah competing in Sprint, Kerin, Individual Time Trial, Team Pursuit. Aleena Reji competing in Sprint, Individual Time Trial, Kerin). M Sonali Chanu competing in Endurance Events, Team Pursuit. T Manorama Devi competing in Endurance Events, Team Pursuit and Amritha Reghunath competing in Team Pursuit, Point Race). The men’s team involves Ranjit Singh competing in Team Sprint, Indivial Time Trial 1000m. Sahil Kumar competing in Team Sprint, Keirin. Sanuraj P competing in (Team Sprint, Individual Sprint, Keirin) and Manjeet Singh competing in Endurance events.
Onkar Singh, Secretary General of Cycling Federation of India said, “We have announced our best team for Commonwealth Games 2018 where we are expecting a good show from our cyclists. We don’t have a good track record in Commonwealth Games so far but this year our cyclists are in good shape and they will give a good competition to the leading countries like England, Australia and others. If everything goes as per our plan then Indian Women Cycling Team will be in medal tally.”

In the last edition of the games, India’s best performance came from Amit Kumar, who was ranked 14 in qualification round of 40 km points race. In the team event, Amit Kumar, Sombir, Manjeet Singh and Suresh Bishnoi finished 6th in their heat.
Talking about women’s category, India’s best performance came from Deborah, who finished 10th in the qualifying round of sprints. She will again look to better her performance in 2018 edition of Commonwealth Games.
