After a successful pre-quarter final day for Indian shuttlers the focus now shifts to the quarter final stage of BWF Badminton world championships. Kidambi Srikanth faced an unexpected defeat to an unseeded American player which was the only casuality for India on Thursday. PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal got the better of much tricky opponents in Sung Ji Hyun and Ratchanok Intanon respectively in straight games. B. Sai Praneeth also showed some form and turned the history sheets to register his maiden victory over Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinhghus of Denmark to advance to the quarter finals.
The biggest upset in the mixed doubles was scripted by the duo of Ashwini Ponappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy who got the better of their higher ranked opponents, despite loosing the first game.
What’s next
PV Sindhu will be taking on her old rival Nozomi Okuhara while Olympic champion Carolina Marin will square off against Saina Nehwal.
In men’s singles, B Sai Praneeth will face a much fancied Kento Momoto of Japan.
In mixed doubles, Ashwini Ponappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will face an uphill task against top seeded Chinese pair of Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong.
