Virat Kohli will continue to lead the team as selection committee led by MSK Prasad announced the Indian squad for the upcoming West Indies tour. Shikhar Dhawan made a return in the squad after suffering from a thumb injury in the recently concluded World Cup. Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Navdeep Saini and Khaleel Ahmed got the reward of their consistent performance in India A tour to West Indies and were included in both ODI and T20 squad. Washington Sundar, Rahul Chahar and Deepak Chahar were also included in the T20 squad.
Rishabh Pant will keep the wickets in the absence of MS Dhoni. Kedar Jadhav retained his place in the team despite poor run in the recently concluded World Cup but Dinesh Karthik could not find a place in the team.
In the bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah was given a much needed break which will give opportunities to bowlers like Khaleel Ahmed and Navdeep Saini.
Test squad
Virat Kohli will continue to lead the side along with his deputy Ajinkya Rahane. The selectors dropped Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan from the team which means that Karnataka openers- Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul will start the innings for India. Wridhimann Saha was included in the squad and will serve as the second wicket-keeper in the team alongside Rishabh Pant.
India will start the tour with a three match T20 series followed by 3 match ODI series and 2 match test series, starting 3 August. The teams will lock horn in first two T20’s at Florida on 3, 4 August.
India will also start its world test championship 2019-21 campaign with two tests in Guyana (August 22 to 26) and Jamaica (August 30 to September 3). The tournament will replace the prestigious Champions trophy which is currently held by Pakistan.
