India’s schedule on 4 August at Tokyo Olympics 2020

India's schedule on 4 August at Tokyo Olympics 2020

After a disappointing Tuesday for the Indian athletes where Indian hockey team lose 5-2 to world champion Belgium and Annu Rani whom PT Usha stated as a medal prospect, finished at 14th spot in her qualification group and could not throw the javelin beyond 55 meters. Top 12 from both the groups were to make it into the finals but Rani, who hails from Meerut finished only 14th in her group to bow out of final contention.

For today, India’s biggest hope Neeraj Chopra will compete in the Javelin men’s qualification alongside Shivpal Singh who will be in group B. Lovlina Borgohain will compete in her semi finals of boxing against world champion and world number one from Turkey. She is one step away from becoming the first Indian boxer to clinch a gold or silver at Olympics. Remember, India has two bronze in boxing at Olympics with Mary Kom and Vijender Singh winning it at 2012 London Olympics.

Indian hockey team will be up against world number three Argentina while their world rank is 9th. That means they have to create yet another upset to sail through to the finals after men’s team are left to play the bronze medal match. Aditi Ashok will also start her campaign in the women’s individual golf event after Udayan Mane and Anirban Lahiri fail to impress in the men’s event.
