All India Football Federation(AIFF) announced yet another season of Intercontinental cup 2019, which starts on July 7. The football association has decided to take the game up north by making Ahmedabad’s EKA Arena as the official venue of the tournament.
This will be coach Igor Stimac’s second assignment as the head coach of India after coaching them to a third place finish at the recently concluded 47th edition of Kings Cup in Thailand. He will expect a much better show from the defensive line and counter attacks from the forwards to retain the Intercontinental cup and enter the top 100 yet again.
In the opening clash of the tournament- hosts and defending champions India will face Tajikistan on 7th July. Tajikistan are currently struggling with the form of their players and the regular sacking of several coaches has not helped their cause. Ranked 120th in the world, the tournament will turn out to be a proving ground for the Persian Lions.
