India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to popularize “India the brand” by announcing International Yoga Day, during his speech in United Nations General Assembly on 27 September 2014. “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day,” Modi said in his speech in UNGC.
The International day of yoga is celebrated since its inception in 2015 on 21st June, when over 30,000 people including Prime Minister Modi performed yoga at the Rajpath in New Delhi. As the world celebrates fifth International Yoga day on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Ranchi to do yoga with the common people of the capital city. The theme of 5th International Yoga Day 2019 is “Climate Action”.
