An insightful conversation with Chennai Smashers coach,Arun Vishnu.
Arun Vishnu is a Kozhikode born badminton player from India who specializes in doubles and now serves as a coach.Vishnu is 6 times national champion, 5 times in mixed doubles pairing up with Aparna Balan. And once in mens doubles pairing with Tarun Kona. Arun Vishnu got top honours in International and national tounaments like Indian Open grand Prix 2009, Bahrain International challenge 2008, Sri Lanka International challenge 2015 , Bahrain International series 2013 ,Bangladesh International Series 2011. Vishnu has also featured for India in World Badminton Championship( 2015,2014,2013 & 2009), Asian Games 2010, Asian Badminton Championship (2016,2015,2013,2012,2011,2010), Sudirman Cup (2015,2013,2011,2009), Thomas Cup (2014). At what age you started to play badminton , who coached you in the initial days?
Arun: I started playing badminton under A. Nazer at Kozhikode at the age of 12.
What has been the change in Indian badminton from your time to the present time?
Arun: When I was playing I felt real challenge or good tough matches starts from quarterfinals and semifinals. But now quality of matches are good from 1st round for juniors. Quality and no. of players have increased. Which is a positive sign for Indian Badminton.
How did it feel to help Chennai Smashers lift the PBL title which was your first assignment as a coach.
Arun: I am really happy to win PBL Title in my maiden assignment as a coach and PBL was a great learning experience for me.
What is your favourite food and what you like to do in your free time ,when not playing badminton ?
Arun: Favorite Food Biryani. Like to Play PlayStation with friends to relax and enjoy in free time.

Will you continue with coaching services or still want to play in national or international circuit ?
Arun: I will continue with coaching. Currently I have been given the responsibility to train the Junior Doubles Batch and will also continue with Chennai Smashes in Premier Badminton League.
Arun is currently coaching the defending champions, Chennai Smashes in the third edition of Premier Badminton League.
