The build to the IPL season 12 has allready started as all the eight franchise teams announced the list of retained and released players ahead of the auction. The upcoming season of the IPL will take place from the third week of March and will conclude within the 1st or 2nd week of May with the cricket world cup scheduled to take place from the last week of May. Meanwhile, a report in Sportstar Live states that the venue and date of the upcoming IPL auction has also been released.
The auction for season 12 will not be a star studded affair with minimal players going under the hammer. It is learnt that the auction will be a one day affair in comparison to the season 11 auction, which was a two day affair in Bengaluru.
Auction date and venue
According to the reports, the auction for season 12 will be held on December 18, earlier January and February were the only months when the auctions were contested.
The auction for all the 11 seasons were held in the garden city of India- Bengaluru, however this time it will be held in Jaipur, according to the reports.
70 players to go under hammer
The auction will see 70 players going under the hammer which includes 50 Indian prospects and 20 foreign cricketers.
South Africa and UAE are the frontrunners in hosting the event but the franchise favours UAE to be the venue considering time difference and logistical issues as a few reasons.
