Amid speculations of Ravichandran Ashwin getting traded to Delhi Capitals from Kings XI Punjab, the Preity Zinta led franchise has confirmed the participation of Ashwin in 2020 season for her team. KXIP owner Ness Wadia thinks Ashwin is a terrific talent and there is no point for trading their captain to another team.
“We have seen what impact Ashwin has in the Indian team. He is an exceptional player and is not only an asset for the Indian team, but also for Kings XI Punjab. He is an integral part of the team and he will continue to remain so. You know the value Ashwin brings to the team. There is no question of letting him go,” Wadia said as quoted by Sportstar.
Wadia added that he is not sure if Ashwin will continue to lead the team as its the decision of their newly elected coach Anil Kumble.
“Anil Kumble has just taken over and all the cricketing decisions will eventually be taken by him,” he added.
It was learned that Delhi Capitals was interested to buy Ashwin from Kings XI Punjab. Capitals had a dream run in this year’s IPL after they reached the knockout stages after a gap of 8 long years, under the leadership of young Shreyas Iyer and coach Ricky Ponting. The Delhi based franchise boasts of some young cricketers and having an experienced lad in Ashwin might have helped their cause of IPL triumph in 2020.
However, Delhi has handful of spinners in their team with the likes of Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Rahul Tewatia, Jalaj Saxena, Mayank Markande, J Suchith and Sandeep Lamichhane. The team management had a tough job in picking the best candidate for the planing XI in this year’s season and with Ashwin coming in the picture, the story would be no different.
