The next season i.e. the 20th edition of the IPL will be the 13th season of world’s most money making T20 league. The league promises to thrill the fans with three new cities set to host the home matches of the franchise. A meeting was held between eight franchise owners and BCCI office bearers in Mumbai where it was finalized that Lucknow, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram will be hosting some of the matches of IPL 2020.
Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab have been hosting their home games at another venue. Rajasthan Royals have changed their second home ground to Guwahati for IPL 2020 whereas Kings XI Punjab will be hosting their matches in Lucknow instead of Indore’s Holkar stadium, as their second home venue.
“Rajasthan has requested for a change of their second home from Ahmedabad to Guwahati and while the GC is okay with the move, IMG will now conduct an inspection at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium before giving the green signal,” an official was quoted as saying by Outlook India.
“As for Lucknow, KXIP have been looking to move to the city since the last edition and had even sent in a request. But polls had played a major role in causing a delay in the shift. But thanks to the great review of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium after the India-West Indies game, the venue is now almost certain to become Punjab’s second home. They earlier played their games at the I.S. Bindra Stadium in Mohali and also used the Holkar Stadium in Indore as their second home,” the official added.
Not to forget, Lucknow and Guwahati based stadiums are newly constructed and are equipped with all the modern amenities and facilities. The fans in both these cities will be eager to see the action unfold infront of their eyes.
