Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar is unsure about his return to the cricket field, as it is yet to be decided whether surgery is needed to treat his sports hernia. The veteran fast bowler does not want to hold the National Cricket Academy (NCA) responsible for the alleged lapses in his rehabilitation. However, he is surprised as to why his hernia was not detected earlier.
NCA was under the scanner after Bhuvneshwar Kumar caught up with an injury just after making a comeback post the side strain injury. He returned to action after four months in the T20 series against West Indies but he complained of back pain after the final T20 after which he was sidelined from action for indefinite period of time.
“NCA must have tried their best but I don’t know what went wrong and why they couldn’t diagnose. Still I am not the right person to comment on that as it might say something else and BCCI will come up with something else.”
“There is no surety of surgery, but generally, the standard procedure in case of sports hernia is surgery. But we still need to take an appointment and I am not sure where it’s going to be. But we are trying to get it as soon as possible. Till I consult a doctor, can’t say when will be the comeback as it will depend on the diagnosis and treatment plan,” Bhuvneshwar was quoted as saying by India Today.
He is expected to miss the New Zealand tour and his participation in T20 World Cup is also uncertain. However, Bhuvneshwar is not thinking too far away. “World T20 is still good nine months away. I am not thinking about that. The first thing is getting fit and I don’t know when I will get fit,” he added.
Will he return to action again ?
Bhuvneshwar is currently 29-year-old and injuries have been a big struggle for him in the recent while. There have been few instances in the past, where a fast bowler failed to be on his best after recovering from an injury. The cases of Ashoke Dinda, Ashish Nehra and Irfan Pathan are the best examples of it. Only time will tell if Bhuvneshwar Kumar can again find his best run after he recovers from this injury.
