BCCI announced a 19 member Indian squad for T20 series against England for the 5 match T20 series which will be played in Ahmedabad’s Motera stadium. Virat Kohli was named as the captain of the team while Rohit Sharma was named as his deputy. Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned to the squad after suffering an injury in IPL 2020. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja were rested for the T20 series owing to the hectic schedule in the future.
Apart from this, Suryakumar Yadav got the reward for his impressive performance in IPL 2020 where he scored 480 runs and he earned his maiden call up for the national team. Hours after his thunderous 173 innings for Jharkhand in Vijay Hazare trophy, Ishan Kishan also got a call up in the T20 squad. The Bihar born cricketer scored 516 runs for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020. Rahul Tewatia was also rewarded for his impressive performance in the past IPL season where he became an overnight sensation for hitting 5 sixes in an over of Sheldon Cottrell to see Rajasthan Royals to a famous victory.
T Natarajan was retained in the team after his heroic in Australia while Varun Chakravarthy, who was initially picked for the limited over series in Australia but lost his place after a shoulder injury, was also named in the T20 squad against England.
Axar Patel also got a call up having played white ball cricket in 2018. Rishabh Pant was also recalled to the team after his heroics in the Australia and England test series.
Manish Pandey, who missed out the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy due to an injury, was sidelined from the team alongside Sanju Samson and Mayank Agarwal.
