ISL: Former Portuguese International appointed as chief coach of Mumbai City FC

Indian Super League franchise Mumbai City FC today announced the signing of Portuguese international player Jorge Costa who will be their new head coach for a contract of one year. Costa had previously coached 10 clubs including European clubs like SC Braga Paos Ferreira from Portugal, AEL Limassol, Anorthosis Famagusta from Greece and CFR Cluj from Romania. The 46-year-old has also coached the national team of Gabon.

Playing career

Costa played as a centre-back in the Portugal national team from 1995-2002. He had 50 national appearance with two goals. He also lead the FC Purto to UEFA champions league triumph in 2004.

Fourth coach of Mumbai City FC

He will become the fourth coach in history of Mumbai City FC after Peter Reid, Nicolas Anelka and Alaxandre Guimaraes.

Mumbai City FC CEO Indranil Das Blah said that among potential candidates, “Jorge’s professionalism, hunger and philosophy stood out”.

Costa said he believes that it has “some of the finest Indian talents” and he’s excited at the prospect of working with them.
