Italy International footballer Davide Astori died in most uncertain way

Italy International footballer Davide Astori died in most uncertain ways. Italy’s top football league postponed its Sunday games to mourn the loss of Fiorentina captain Astori, whose team said he died of sudden illness at the age of 31.

Astori was found dead in his hotel room in Udine by team-mates before Fiorentina’s match away at Udinese. The Viola captain is believed to have passed away painlessly in his sleep.

He leaves behind a two-year-old daughter with wife Francesca Fioretti.

“Fiorentina are profoundly shaken and forced to announce that club captain Davide Astori has died, caught by a sudden illness,” Fiorentina said in a statement.

According to media reports, Astori, who played 14 times for Italy as a defender, died in his sleep in his team’s hotel ahead of their Series A clash against Udinese away.

“For the terrible and delicate situation, and above all for the respect of his family, appeal is made to everyone’s sensibility,” Fiorentina said.

The match against Udinese has been postponed following the announcement of the death of the former Cagliari player, a product of the famed AC Milan academy.

Davide was Born in San Giovanni Bianco, about a 90-minute drive northeast of Milan. He was capped four times by the Italy Under-18 squad before he began his senior career with AC Milan in 2006. He never took the field for the Italian powerhouse, instead being loaned out to two lower-division teams.
He joined Cagliari in 2008 and spent most of his career there, appearing in 174 games and scoring three times, before going on loan to Roma in 2014 and then to Fiorentina in 2015.
He joined the latter on a permanent basis in 2016 and made 57 appearances for the Florence squad, scoring three times.
