In-form HS Prannoy got the better of 8th seed Loh Kean Yew of Malaysia in straight games 22-20, 21-19 to move into the quarter finals of Yonex Japan Open 2022 where he will face 4th seed Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei(Taiwan). Prannoy has been in sublime form off late and has defeated many top 10 players in the recent while including Viktor Axelsen, Lakshya Sen and Kento Momota.
He will face a stern test against Chen of Chinese Taipei and here are the looks at some stats-
Head to head
Chou Tien Chen holds a 4-3 advantage over Prannoy in the head to head. Their last encounter came back in 2022 Singapore Open where the Indian prevailed 14-21, 22-20, 21-18.
Winner prediction
Prannoy is on a resurgence and has risen to 18th in the world ranking while Chen enjoys a ranking of 6th in the world. Off late, Prannoy has been dominant over his Chinese Taipei opponent and his last loss came against him in 2021 Yonex French Open.
However, Prannoy has upstaged many top opponents in the past but he had lost to inferior players in the business end of the tournaments including the recently concluded BWF world championships where he lost to lower ranked Chinese opponent in the quarter finals.
As far as the current form is concerned, Prannoy looks the overwhelming favoruite to defeat Chen.
