Young South African pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada was named South Africa’s Cricketer of the Year. The award came at the end of a 12-month period. The 23 year old pacer joins the like of Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, Makhaya Ntini and AB de Villiers, who have been the two-time winners of the award.
Rabada collected a total of six awards, including Test cricketer of the year, one-day international player of the year and players’ player of the year
Rabada took 72 wickets at an average of 19.52 in 12 Tests from the England tour in July last year. He missed one Test at the tour because he was banned after reaching a demerit points threshold.
In the three Tests against India, he picked up 15 wickets at an average of 20 to help the Proteas win the series 2-1.
Rabada went on to be man of the series when South Africa beat Australia in a controversial four-match series at home. The Johannesburg born cricketer was the highest wicket taker in the series with 23 wickets in 4 matches.
He was ruled out of the recently concluded Indian Premier League due to a lower back stress fracture. He was Right to Matched by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 4.2 crore in the player auction.
Rabada is expected to get fully fit before the all important tour of Sri Lanka, starting 12th July.
