Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has expressed his concern by saying that cricket lacks superstars now which is not a happening sign for the game. He however felt that India captain Virat Kohli is the only entertainer he sees in world cricket.

“I really struggle to see entertainers, they’re lacking in the game. Virat Kohli is the stand-out, but otherwise pure entertainers and superstars are not in the game and that’s a big worry,” he told BBC Radio.

A veteran of the game, Pietersen was born in South Africa and played his cricket for England. The 38-year-old has featured in 104 Tests, 136 ODIs and 37 T20Is for the European nation.

Pietersen also said that former players should be associated with the game and various cricket board need to spend some hefty amount of money to pull them out of the commentary and bring them to academies or director role in the board.

“You want those superstars(Former players) attached to franchises, national sides and academies so that youngsters get inspired to be those people.”

“They have to get paid more because the money for commentary, which is a pretty easy gig, is fairly good,” added Pietersen, who has worked as a commentator himself since the end of his England career in 2014.

“The boards have that money and they maybe need to get their fingers in their pockets,” he added.
