Key Indian batsman becomes father to a baby girl, set to miss the 4th test against Australia

India thumped Australia by 137 runs in the third test to take a 2-1 lead in the domain test series with the last test scheduled in Sydney from 3rd January, 2018. Meanwhile, middle order batsman Rohit Sharma and his wife Ritika Sajdeh are blessed with a baby girl and Sharma has allready flied back home to meet the new member of his family in Mumbai.

With three days remaining for the start of the fourth test, it looks unlikely that Rohit will be able to join the squad for the test match.

India will certainly miss the services of Rohit for the decider as he scored 63* in the first innings of third test match and he could have proved crucial for India in the fourth test batting in the middle order.

“It would’ve been great to have him (Rohit) around. Tactically, he brings so much to the side and then his batting provides the right kind of balance to the side. But what awaits him is far bigger and more important,” a source was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

Rohit was excluded from the test squad after disappointing performance at the South Africa tour where he scored 78 runs in four innings. The selectors sidelined him for Afghanistan test, England tour and the home test series against West Indies before calling him back for the Australia test series.

Rohit continued to fire in the limited over format which was awarded by selectors as they gave him another lifeline to prove his worth in the longest format of the game.

Will be back for ODIs

India will play three match ODI series against Australia from 12 January and Rohit will be the vice captain of the team. He is expected to return for the while ball cricket and open the innings for India alongside Shikhar Dhawan.
