The Khelo India programme has been introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grass-root level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation. Ministry of Youth Affairs and sports has brought the Khelo India School Games which is a part of Khelo India programme, emphasising on.

Khelo India School games is a big step for development of sport talent amongst the school children. Sports super-powers like China and USA are the top medal gainers in Olympics due to their great talents which emerge from school. They have an Olympic gold medalist at an age when Indian players are still at development mode. Developing a sports talent at the time of school time will ensure vast opportunities for an individual in future and give more time to him/her for developing more as a complete player. It will also ensure of maintaining a healthy competition at junior level, an area where India is struggling from a long time. Talented players identified in priority sports disciplines at various levels by the High-Powered Committee will be provided annual financial assistance of INR 5 lakh per annum for 8 years.

Who can participate in Khelo India School games?
The school students from every state of India who are under the age limit of 17 years can participate. With 199 gold medals, 199 silver medals, 275 bronze medals, to be awarded. A whopping 3298 athletes, including World Junior Champion shooter Anish Bhanwala and World Youth Weightlifting Championship silver medallist Jeremy Lalrinnunga will take part in the inaugural Khelo India School Games.
What is the venue of Khelo India School games?
New Delhi will act as the main venue for the games. Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex will host the games.
When will Khelo India School Games start?
Khelo India School Games, which are a part of the Khelo India programme, are being held from 31st January to 8th February, 2018.
