Five-time Amateur world champion M C Mary Kom (48kg) will be in charge of a 10-strong Indian team named on Friday for the AIBA women’s world boxing championships, scheduled to be held here from November 15 to 24 in New Delhi.
Pinky Jangra will compete in the 51kg category, Manisha will compete in 54kg category, Sonia Lather will compete in 57 kg, Saweety Boora will compete in 75kg category and veteran Laishram Sarita Devi will compete in 60kg category. The new faces and unknown faces include Simranjit Kaur in 64kg category, Bhagyabati Kachari in 81kg category and Seema Poonia in 81+kg category.
Mary, the 2012 Olympic bronze medallist made it into the team alongside Lovlina, Sarita, Baghyabati and Simranjit on the basis of their fine run in the 13th International Silesian boxing championships held in Poland and the 32nd Ahmet Comert Tournament in Turkey.
Mary won a gold in Poland while Sarita and Lovlina claimed a bronze medal.
Simran and Baghyabati won a gold in Turkey.
Other boxers in the team were announced on the basis of their performance in the trials.
