Former England captain Michael Vaughan is perplexed of not picking Martin Guptill in IPL Auction 2018. Guptill was a part of Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab in 2016 and 2017 respectively. But his inconsistent run in IPL has been a reason why no franchise showed interest in the destructive Kiwi opener. The right hander has struggled to score runs in India and thus not entertaining any bid during the auctions. Guptill scored 310 runs in 5 matches of recently concluded ODI series against Pakistan, he failed to deliver in the starting 2 T20’s, but managed to score 59 runs of 43 balls in the last T20.

However Michael Vaughan thinks the other way and he says that the Kiwi cricketer is a brilliant batsman and also adds a flavour of great fielder in the team. He tweeted “Baffles me how Martin Guptill doesn’t get an IPL contract …. Brilliant Batsman & unbelievable fielder …. !!!!!!!!!”

His fans and followers also had their opinion to share-
He has a poor record in a india I guess…and not quite consistent enough!!

he is essentially a Test batter – @IPL requires a batsman who’s got a canny ability to destroy bowling & bowlers. Like Gayle, @RoySymonds63 , Gibbs, @SAfridiOfficial , KevinPietersen, Jacob Oram…Citing the old school as I believe they were the real stars.

Struggles against spin on Indian tracks, has a poor IPL record, franchises know very well what they are doing.

Because IPL is played in India?? Guptill for all talent has a very ordinary record in india

Problem against spin might be a deterrent but it is not as big a problem some make it to be.
Some players are just not fancied by IPL teams without much reason ,Guptill,Sodhi and Amla being the prime examples.
