Tensions arose as former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was left out from the West Indies and Australia T20 series which likely marked the end of his T20 career. Virat Kohli announced that the former captain himself wanted a youngster to take his place in the team after which the selectors gave the chance to Rishabh Pant in the T20 series.

It was certain that Dhoni will now feature in ODI format and will hang his boots after the 2019 world cup but the recent build up is sure to cheer the Dhoni fans around the world.

MS Dhoni set to return to the T20 squad

The Indian team is scheduled to travel to New Zealand after the ODI series in Australia and MS Dhoni was expected to return to the squad for the ODIs. Meanwhile a report in Mumbai Mirror states that the Ranchi lad is also set to return to the T20 squad that will play against New Zealand.

A chance to rise again

There were speculations that selectors might give a nod to Rishabh Pant over MS Dhoni in 2019 world cup but another chance in T20’s will mean that selectors are assured that he will play the world cup next year and want to give him more chances to bat. Dhoni was not in the best of form with the bat in 2018 leaving the IPL season. But his wicket-keeping skills continue to haunt the opposition batsman and his vast experience will only benefit the Indian team for the marquee event next year.
