Indian boxer N Lalbiakkima (49kg) registered a sensational victory over Olympic champion Hasanboy Dusmatov in the men’s lightweight category to enter the semifinals of the President’s Cup Tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan.
The boxer from Manipur, prevailed in a split decision of 4-1 to clinch the biggest win of his career and also assuring a medal for himself. The 24-year-old Dusmatov is also a silver-medallist from last year’s World Championships.
Former world youth champion Sachin Siwach (52kg) also advanced to the semi final and assured himself a medal. The Indian youngster won by a split decision of 4-1 over Thailand’s Yurachai Wuttichai.
Another Indian in fray was Devanshu Jaiswal, who bowed out after going down to Uzbekistan’s Melikuziyev Bektemir in his quarterfinal bout.
