Star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra wins a gold in the Savo Games in Finland with a dominant display. He pipped his Chinese Taipei rival Chao-Tsun Cheng to claim the top honours. Chopra, 20, threw a best of 85.69m to claim the gold medal. His personal and season best performance came in first leg of the Diamond League Meeting in Doha in May, where he managed to throw at a distance of 87.43m.
Cheng who is believed to be a competitor for Neeraj in the Asian circuit managed 82.52m to take the silver metal. This was way below his season best performance of 84.60m which he achieved earlier this month in Sweden.
Cheng is the only Asian to throw the javelin over the 90m mark. He created headlines when he threw 91.36m at the World University games in Taipei last year to create history and beat the Asian record of 89.15m set by Zhao Qinggang of China at the Incheon Asian Games.
Neeraj(Season best 87.43m) is leading the Asian table so far this season, ahead of Cheng(84.60m) Season best and Ahmed Bader Magour of Qatar (season best 83.71m)
