The Board of Control for Cricket in India changed the complexion of T20 cricket by launching Indian Premier League in 2008. There have been certain changes in the rule book of the tournament to make it more interesting and entertaining and the board is set to made another revolutionary change to world’s richest cricket league.
The ‘Power Player’ rule can be brought in the next edition of the league in 2020, which promises to bring more entertainment for the fans. According to media reports, this new rule has also been approved and the wait is only till Tuesday, when it will be finalized in front of the IPL Governing Council at the Board headquarters in Mumbai. The rule may be tested in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, India’s premier domestic T20 league.
What is the super player rule?
Suppose you need 25 runs in an over and power hitter like Chris Gayle or Andre Russell is not playing in the match due to some reasons. But now with this rule, they can come on the field in such a situation and can change the complexion of the game by big hits for which they are suited.
Similarly, if you have to save few runs in the last over and a player like Jasprit Bumrah is not in the playing XI, the captain can make the most of this rule and bring him to bowl the over. Its worth mentioning that under this rule, a team can change the player at any time.
