Cricket is the most followed sports in India and when it comes to the game, everyone is an expert. However, according to a report, people in the country have very little knowledge of other sports. A report by the Research Center of Ghaziabad-based Institute of Management Technology (IMT) in Uttar Pradesh has presented shocking figures.
According to the report, only 5.56 percent people in the country have knowledge of the sports. Research center’s analyst Kanishka Pandey state that out of a population of 125 crore people, there are only 57 lakh people who have knowledge of the sports or they are involved with it.
Kanishka is the head of the research center, which had instituted a PIL in the Supreme Court last year to include the game in fundamental rights.
Kanishka says that only 5.56 per cent of the population is sports literate. The percentage of women in this is 1.31 percent only. Talking about sports literacy in America, its 20 percent, while over 1 crore people only play badminton and if we combine the total, the Asian giant will take over America.
No wonder, this is the reason why America and China are the top spot conquerer in the Olympics and country like India with billion people, fail to finish in the top 50.
