Indian weightlifters continued their medal rush as Pardeep Singh wins silver in men’s 105 kg weightlifting at Gold Coast CWG 2018. The 22-year old lifted a combined total of 352 kg. In the snatch, he lifted 152 kg and subsequently 200 kg in clean and jerk, thus, registering a new personal best, four kilos higher than his previous record of 196 kg.
The Jalandhar based lifter started off with a lift of 148kg in first attempt of snatch, and went on to post the best snatch effort of 152kg. In clean & jerk, he managed 200 (in his first attempt, but two failed attempts of 209 and 211, he slipped to silver medal position.

Samoa’s Sanele Mao took the gold after a total lift of 360kg and Owen Boxell of England clinched bronze with a total lift of 351kg.
Last year, Pardeep had claimed a surprise gold medal in his first senior competition in the 105kg category. Pardeep’s feat now takes India’s medal count to 13 at the Games, and 9th in weightlifting alone.
