Olympics are back after a gap of three years as a strong 117 member Indian contingent is all set to bring glory to the country as it fight it out to have their most successful Olympic campaign. Its worth mentioning that 2020 Tokyo Olympics was scheduled in 2021 due to the Covid-19 threat in the Japanese capital city which ensured that there is only 3 years gap for the next Olympic games. India finished at 48th spot in the table at the last Olympics having won the coveted gold medal on the last day courtesy Neeraj Chopra’s brilliance in the Javelin Throw event and combined to win 7 medals overall with 2 silver and 4 bronze.
India will be raring to take its medal tally past 10 medals this time and return home with ample of gold medals and the onus will lie on the shooters, shutlers, athletics, archery and boxing. India will start its campaign at Paris on 27th July with the shooting event where there is lot on stake as Indian shooters returned empty handed in Tokyo but they will hope to turn the picture in Paris.
Olympic Opening ceremony
Before the official opening of the games, a grand opening ceremony has been scheduled on 26th of July inside a stadium with the Parade of Nations taking place along the river Seine in Paris. Athletes will be travelling on around 100 boats and pass through some of Paris’ iconic destinations, including the Notre Dame, Pont des Arts and Pont Neuf. The parade will start from Austerlitz bridge and end at the Trocadéro.
India will be represented by PV Sindhu and Achanta Sharath Kamal in the opening ceremony parade. Sindhu is a two time Olympic medalist while Kamal is participating in his 5th Olympic games.
Its worth mentioning that 206 Olympic national teams are represented at the 2024 Summer Olympics with 54 from Africa, 48 from Europe, 44 from Asia, 41 from the Americas, 17 from Oceania, the Individual Neutral Athletes and the Refugee Olympic Team.
