As Paris Olympics came to a conclusion with USA women’s basketball team clinching a gold medal against home favorites France ensuring they top the medals tally with 40 gold medal, 44 silver and 42 bronze to make up 126 in total and surpass China. Its worth mentioning that China was ahead of USA in the points table with 40 gold medals but the last event of Olympics ensured that USA surpass China in the tally.
As far as Indian interest in concerned, the Asian country returned with 6 medals to find themselves at 71st spot in the medals tally. Manu Bhaker won bronze in women’s 10m pistol and 10m mixed team event alongside Sarabjot Singh. Swapnil Kusale won bronze in men’s 50m rifle three positions. The Indian hockey team won another bronze to win Olympic medal in two successive Olympics after 1968 and 1972 Olympics. India’s golden boy Neeraj Chopra returned with a silver medal in men’s javelin and the campaign came to an end with a bronze medal from wrestler Aman Sehrawat in men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling.
The Paris Olympics featured 329 events in 32 sports, encompassing a total of 48 disciplines and athletes from around the world to sweat it out for the win and medals.
