MC Mary Kom today became the six times world champion after emerging victorious against Ukraine’s Hanna Okhota in the 48kg final by an unanimous 5-0 decision. The veteran boxer and mother of three is now the only female boxer with six world titles to her name.
Her journey started in 2001 where she won a silver medal. The colour of the medal was soon changed as she went onto clinch gold in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 editions.
With the top prize, Mary also equals the record of most successful boxer in tournament history. She equals the record of Cuban legend Felix Savon.

Mary’s efforts were applauded by the fans on social media and even Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not hold back and took to twitter to congratulate the veteran puglist.
“A proud moment for Indian sports. Congratulations to Mary Kom for winning a Gold in the Women’s World Boxing Championships. The diligence with which she’s pursued sports and excelled at the world stage is extremely inspiring. Her win is truly special. @MangteC,” he wrote on his official twitter account.
