After some controversies revolving around the Indian women’s team, former India off-spinner Ramesh Powar has been appointed the interim coach of the national women’s cricket team until the BCCI finds a suitable replacement for former coach Tushar Arothe.
Arothe, a former Baroda all-rounder was forced to resign following the differences with senior players who were not happy with his coaching methods.

Powar will join the team camp which begins in Bengaluru from July 25. The BCCI has already invited applications for the full-time coach’s job with July 20 being the deadline to apply.
Powar had featured in two Test matches for India, picking six wickets. He also featured in 31 ODI for national team picking 34 wickets. Powar played for Mumbai, Rajasthan and Gujarat in domestic circuit, picking 470 wickets in 148 games.
Earlier in the last week, Mumbai wicket-keeper batsman Vinayak Samant defeated Powar to become the senior coach of Mumbai cricket team. Powar was the forerunner for becoming the coach of Mumbai but a managing committee resolution of the MCA went against him and Samant was favoured over him.
Powar had quit as the spin bowling coach of the MCA run cricket academy mid-way in February this year and had gone to Australia to train young spinners.
According to the guidelines, the new coach should be below 55 years of age and must have experience coaching an international or first-class team.
