Team India will lock horns against arch-rivals Pakistan in the upcoming world cup on June 16th. The two teams last played in Super four stage of Asia cup 2018, where the men in blue emerged victorious. However, after the Pulwama terror attack in February 2019, there has been a huge demand of boycotting the world cup game against Pakistan.
Pakistan has never won a world cup game against India and the latter team stands with an advantage of 6-0 in the show piece event. Pakistani chief selector Inzamam-ul-haq was confident that Sarfaraz Ahmed and company will finally pip India to break the jinx for Pakistan in the ongoing edition.
R. Ashwin predictions about India vs Pakistan clash
Rewinding the history books, ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin backed India to pip Pakistan in the mother of clashes that takes place on June 16 in Manchester. Ashwin feels that India boasts of a powerful batting line-up and a lethal bowling line-up.
“History says India always win against Pakistan. Looking at the balance and their batting prowess and the way India has been bowling in recent times, I can’t think much beyond India winning the game. Even Pakistan can punch a hole in India’s batting, then that is the only chance they have.
“India is favorites – Rohit and Virat are the two best batsmen in the world. Our balance – the emergence of Hardik Pandya, Kedar Jadhav and Bumrah – the smaller role of Jadhav has been incredible over the last two years,” Ashwin told India Today.
Pakistan will be high in confidence after pipping a much fancied England by 14 runs in their second game of the world cup. The men in green faced a backlash after they were exposed to short balls in the first game against West Indies, losing by 7 wickets. They next face 2011 finalists Sri Lanka on 7 June.
