Ravindra Jadeja named India's most valuable player of 21st century

Star Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been voted India’s most useful Test player of the 21st century by Wisden Magazine. Jadeja is rated 97.3 MVP and has become the second most useful player in the world after Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka who took the numero uno position.

“It was a dream to play for India and it is a matter of pride to be honored with the most useful player. I thank my fans, fellow players, coaches and support staff for their love and support,” Jadeja said.

The Saurashtra man has played 49 Tests since his debut in whites in 2012, where he has scored 1869 runs which includes one century and 14 fifties, and has also proved his mettle with the ball with 213 Test wickets. According to Cricviz analysis, every cricketer in the world is given a ‘MVP(most valuable player) rating’ based on their contribution to the match.

“It might come as a surprise to see Ravindra Jadeja, India’s spin-bowling all-rounder, feature as India’s number one. After all, he’s not even always an automatic pick in their Test team. However, when he does play he is picked as a frontline bowler and has batted as high as No.6 – contributing to a very high match involvement,” Cricviz’s Freddie Wilde told Wisden.

“The 31-year-old’s bowling average of 24.62 is better than Shane Warne’s and his batting average of 35.26 is better than Shane Watson’s. His batting and bowling average differential of 10.62 runs is the second-best of any player this century to have scored more than 1,000 runs and taken 150 wickets. He is an all-rounder of the very highest quality,” he added.

Recently a banter was set ablaze on twitter between the fans of Krunal Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja. The fans supported their favourite cricketer and quoted why one is superior over each other.

However, comparing the two is quiet unfair as Jadeja has been a seasoned campaigner while Pandya is still in his early days of International career, having made his debut in 2018.
