It was a momentous occasion for Virat Kohli as he notched up his maiden test century in England. It will surely going to be a memorable ton for the Indian captain after a string of low scores in 2014 test series in England. Earlier in the match, England got bowled out on 287 runs and India started on a positive note as Shikhar and Vijay put up a 50 run stand for the first wicket. However, after the fall of Murali Vijay(20) India kept loosing wickets at regular interval.
Shikhar Dhawan(26) tried to take the attack to the opposition but only managed to find Dawid Mallan and fell to Sam Curran. KL Rahul(4), Ajinkya Rahane(15) and Dinesh Karthik(0) failed to create an impact as Virat Kohli was left being the lone warrior. Hardik Pandya (22) tried to build a partnership with Kohli but a surprise yorker by Sam Curran proved too good for him on the day.
Indian captain tried to build the innings with the lower order batsman and scored boundaries at regular intervals that inched him closer to his 22nd test ton. He eventually completed it in 65th over of the innings in an over bowled by Ben Stokes and became the fourth Indian captain to score a hundred in England.
He celebrated it in a grand fashion and kissed his engagement ring that was clobbed in the locket around his neck.
