Legendary English opener Alastair Cook is set to retire from International cricket after the ongoing 5th test at Kennington Oval after he faced criticism for failing to score against India in the Specsavers test series.
Cook had a memorable outing in his last test by playing a 71 run-innings, thanks to the flat bottomed surface of Oval that didn’t favoured the Indian bowlers at the start. He was later dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah in the post-tea session of 1st days play but the 33-year-old will hope that his team gives him a winning good-bye.
He might quit playing the game but it is understood that he might keep himself associated with the game that gave him so much in life.
“Chef” as he is fondly called by his close ones, is in talks with TalkSport to join their commentary team for England’s tour of the Caribbean at the start of 2019.
England are scheduled to play three Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is in the tour, which concludes in second week of March.
Cook’s career
The southpaw has featured for England in 161 test matches and amassed 12,352* runs with 32 centuries and 57 half-centuries. He is the leading run scorer for England in whites.
