Indian captain Rohit Sharma said that it does not matter if the role of captaining the team is given to him or not in white ball cricket. The Mumbai lad is leading the men in blue in the upcoming three match T20 series against Bangladesh in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli.
There was a debate after India’s semi-final debacle in world cup that the team should adopt the idea of having a different captain in different formats and Rohit should command the team in the limited-over format. The stylish Mumbai batsman, however, refused to get into the debate and said that he is happy to captain it when the circumstances require.
“Captaining India is a massive honour, be it for one match, 10 matches or 100 matches. When we were younger, the dream we had was of playing for India, not of leading India. I got this opportunity to lead the team, and it’s a great honour. I have captained team in the past and it was a good experience,” Rohit was quoted as saying by Times Now.
“I never think ‘why did they make me captain for just one series or two series. Why not for a full year? I don’t think or even talk about these things. Whenever I get these opportunities, I happily shoulder the responsibility and try to set an example,” he added.
The Hitman was further asked about the future of MS Dhoni with the Indian team on which Rohit remained as cool as ever and said that its the media that makes the things.
“We don’t hear anything about these things. You guys make these things up,” Rohit said.
Indian team will take the ground against Bangladesh in the 1st T20 at Arun Jaitley stadium on 3rd November. The other two games will be played at Rajkot and Nagpur.
