2013 IPL spot fixing was a big setback for Indian cricket as it brought back the horrifying memories of fixing fiasco of 90’s. Star cricketer S Sreesanth, who played for Rajasthan Royals was accused of fixing after which his career came to an end. The Kerala cricketer was banned for life by the BCCI Disciplinary Committee on 13 September 2013 due to spot-fixing in the IPL, but last month, the BCCI reduced the ban on Sreesanth to seven years. The ban imposed on him will end on August 2020 and he is still hopeful of a national call up.
Sreesanth looking forward to BJP
Sreesanth spoke to Indian Express in an interview and said that he is looking forward to join politics and contest from Thiruvananthapuram seat in 2024 elections from BJP ticket.
He said that he is a big fan of Shashi Tharoor, who is one person who understands him and supported him in difficult times. However, he added that he will beat him in the election from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat in 2024. The Supreme Court on March 15 ended the life ban imposed on the fast bowler.
The court asked the BCCI Ombudsman to reschedule Sreesanth’s sentence within three months. Justice DK Jain, who is looking into the matter, rescheduled the sentence on August 24 and sentenced Sreesanth to seven years.
