The cricket world cup started with hosts England thumping South Africa in world cup opener with a massive margin of 104 runs to start their world cup campaign on a high. The world cup got underway on May 30 and will conclude on July 14, with the finals at the iconic Lord’s in London.
England are the firm favourites to lift the coveted trophy, however some experts claim India to be a force to reckon with alongside Australia who are high in confidence after pipping India 3-2 in India and clean sweeping Pakistan 5-0 in United Arab Emirates(UAE). The returning Steve Smith and David Warner will add more strength to the team.
Sachin predicts the semi-finalists
The “God of Cricket” was present at Oval to witness the world cup opener between South Africa and hosts England and meanwhile, he also made his commentary debut with Star Sports in Hindi. During the innings break, Sachin was asked the semi-finalists of the tournament and the leading run scorer in the world cup history predicted that England, India, New Zealand and Australia will make it to the last four.
Tendulkar further said that David Warner will be the one batsman to watch out for in the world cup as the Australian opener’s hunger for runs was seen in the recently concluded season of IPL and he will be roaring to perform for Australia and defend their world title, which they won in 2015.
Amongst bowlers, Tendulkar feels that Afghan spin sensation Rashid Khan and England pacer Jofra Archer will be the ones to watch out for in the show-piece event.
