Indian shooters showed the right intent ahead of big Commonwealth Games and Asian Games by winning medals at shooting world cup 2018. Indian contingent started on a strong note with three medals, including a world record gold, on the first day of the International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in Mexico on Saturday.
Shahzar Rizvi shot a world record 242.3 in the 10m air pistol event’s final to beat reigning Olympic champion Christian Reitz of Germany, 239.7, to win the top prize.
Pistol shooter Jitu Rai won the bronze in the same event with a score of 219. Three Indians made it to the finals of the season’s first World Cup.
Om Prakash Mitharval, the third qualifying Indian in the event, finished fourth with a score of 198.4.
Mehuli Ghosh made her senior debut and added to India’s medal tally. The 17 years old shot a world junior record 228.4 to win bronze in the women’s 10m air rifle event.
In the women’s event, three Indian shooters progressed to the final. Anjum Moudgil finished fourth with 208.6 points, while Commonwealth champion Apurvi Chandela finished seventh in the standings with 144.1 points.
Sunday will see Indian compete in the men’s 10m air rifle and women’s 10m air pistol. Deepak Kumar, Ravi Kumar and Arjun Babuta will be India’s hope in men’s event in shooting world cup 2018, while Mahima Agrawal, Manu Bhaker and Yashaswini Singh Deswal will be in the fray in the women’s event.
