Criticized for his inconsistent run in the ongoing test series, Shikhar Dhawan has tried to defend the team by saying the players are also “hurt” like the fans and followers of Indian cricket. India were expected to turn down the favours at England soil but Virat Kohli’s team failed to notch a series win despite showing some sort of fight leaving the Lords test. The Men In Blue suffered a 60 run defeat in Southampton to give an unassailable 3-1 lead to hosts.
We are also hurt- Dhawan
“People who have been writing negative stuff. We are also hurt the day you guys are. It is important to learn from our mistakes and move forward. We give our best for the nation everytime we walk on the ground and most important thing is as a team we should be in a good mindset before the next game,” Dhawan posted on his Instagram page.
Openers have been the biggest disappointment for the Indian team. Murali Vijay was dropped from the last two tests after he made just 26 runs in four innings. KL Rahul performed in clusters and could manage 113 runs in four matches. Shikhar Dhawan is the most successful Indian opener on the tour, with 158 runs to his name in six innings.
Warriors stay positive when things are not in favour- Dhawan
“We cannot change the past. So we do our hardwork at the ground as always and keep our process strong. After practice it is important to laugh and be happy so we create positivity in the team. That’s what champions do. Easy to be happy when winning. Warriors stay positive when things are down too. Thanks to the fans who are still supporting us,” Dhawan wrote.
The final test match start from Friday at the Kennington Oval in London.
