The brightest star in the development of science, whose insights shaped modern cosmology and inspired global audiences in the millions, has died aged 76. The British scientist was famed for his work with black holes and relativity, and wrote several popular science books including A Brief History of time. At the age of 22 Prof Hawking was given only a few years to live after being diagnosed with a rare form of motor neurone disease. His family released a statement in the early hours of Wednesday morning confirming his death at his home in Cambridge. The sports fraternity reached out to twitter and mourned on the demise of Stephen Hawking.
