Rishabh Pant faced the heat after he leaked away 76 runs as byes during the England test series that became a prominent reason of India’s loss in the series. However, two months later, the man from Delhi has been in the best form with the gloves having taken 11 catches in the recently concluded first test where India won by 31 runs.
He also equalled the record of most catches in a test match by a wicket-keeper. He now joins the list alongside Jack Russell of England and Ab De Villiers of South Africa.
Pant, 21, also went past the 10 catch figure set by Wridhimann Saha to set a new India record.
The Roorkee born Delhi bound cricketer pounched on six catches in the first innings and went onto hung on with five catches in the second innings to claim the record.
A chance to create world record
Pant had a chance to claim 12 catches in a match and create a new world record during Jasprit Bumrah’s over when Nathan Lyon edged the ball but it was eventually dropped by Pant. He moved to his natural left side before the ball nicked past the bat and got late for the catch but somehow managed to dive but it was not enough to claim his 12th catch of the game.
