Former India batsman Subramaniam Badrinath today retired from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. The Tamil Nadu batsman had last appeared for India way back in 2011.
Badrinath, 38, made the announcement official by hosting a press conference at the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) headquarter in Chennai.
The stylish right handed batsman made his ODI debut way back on 20 August 2008 against Sri Lanka and since then he has appeared in 7 ODIs for the country. Following his impressive run for Tamil Nadu in Ranji trophy, he was called to the Indian test team and he made his debut against South Africa on 6 February 2010. Since then he has appeared in two test matches for India.
“This has certainly not been an easy decision to be honest. I’ve been pondering over it. I’ve mentioned it to Mr. Kasi Viswanathan. Somehow my hand didn’t go into penning the letter over the last year. I don’t know why. But having turned 38 yesterday, I decided it was about the right time,” Badrinath told reporters.
Profilic domestic career
Badri was an integral part of Tamil Nadu cricket team from 2000-2014/15 season. He later went on to play for Vidharba and Hyderabad as well. The former CSK and RCB batsman scored 10,245 first class runs from 145 games at an average of 54.49, including 32 centuries.
A dream unfulfilled
Badri said that he had a dream to help Tamil Nadu win the Ranji trophy.
“Whenever I played for Tamil Nadu, I wore my heart on my sleeve. I did whatever I could do to win a match for my team. It was a dream to lift the trophy but I wouldnt say it as a regret,” Badrinath said.
