Two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar could miss the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (CWG) for his alleged involvement in a brawl with Parveen Rana during the CWG trials last month. The Delhi Police had registered an FIR against Sushil on charges of attacking Praveen and his brother Naveen. Read : FIR Registered against Double Olympic Wrestler from India.

Kumar could miss on a CWG berth, if Delhi police file a chargesheet against the double Olympic medallist in the case of brawl involving him and fellow wrestler Praveen Rana during the selection trials for the Gold Coast CWG, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has indicated.

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has referred the case involving Sushil Kumar and Parveen Rana to its disciplinary committee after the former denied his, and his followers, involvement in the violence that marred the selection trials for the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Delhi last month.

Earlier this month, the WFI had shot off a notice to Sushil following a written complaint by Rana accusing the two-time Olympic medal winner and his supporters of beating him up following the trials for the Commonwealth Games in December. In his reply, Sushil has refuted the allegations. “Whatever happened during the trials was unfortunate. I have condemned the incident myself so the allegations made against me are very surprising,” Sushil wrote in his letter, dated January 5, to WFI president Brijbhushan Sharan Singh. “Neither me nor any people associated with me are involved in this incident.”

“Wrestling is my life and I am always committed to the sport of wrestling. There was no intention to demean wrestling or any of the wrestler and I will never ever do it, i myself didn’t want to disrupt the discipline of the federation and I’ll always follow it in the future. I want to assure that neither I nor any of my supporters were involved in this whole incident. I condemn the entire episode,” Sushil wrote in his letter to WFI, as per the report.

The brawl has allready been an eye catching affair amongst the fans and wrestling supporters. India will occur a great loss if the two times Olympic medalist, will be missing from the Indian squad to Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Sushil has two Commonwealth gold medals to his name. Which he won in 2010 Delhi Commonwealth games followed by 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth games.
